Project Details
Almost twenty years ago my Mother passed away, ravaged by multiple forms of cancer. Not many photos of her exist, usually choosing to hide when a camera appeared. So I’m sure you can imagine how excited my family was when we were informed by our Aunt (her Sister) that a good amount of super 8 footage from over 30 years ago was found.
There are images of her swimming as a teenager, being shy when a boy flirts with her, goofing around with her Brother, Sonny (who was murdered by a jilted girlfriend before I ever had the chance to meet him), and best of all, playing with my Brother, Sister and I in the yard and in a nearby river.
The video had no sound and hours of footage of landscapes and horses, so I edited it down to the bits with family members (leaving in a bit of the horses and landscapes for effect and nostalgia) and added music - some I had written and some by other artists. I created an animated title sequence featuring illustrations of old picture frames holding real family photographs. The frames are propped-up on a table containing objects from our pasts (our old parrot, wedding rings, a skateboard, half-dead plants, etc.).
This is my first attempt at creating any kind of animation for broadcast.
