Project Details
As the Senior Interactive Developer/Designer at Adlucent I was tasked with completely restructuring and redesigning the company website. In order complete this task I had to answer two important questions:
- How can we create a site that’s innovative and breaks the rules a bit but isn’t impossible to use?
- How can we take our existing sitemap (15+ pages) and siphon that down to four or less?
My answer: a one-page site.
I decided to take the traditional tabbed menu structure and turn it on its head a bit by placing the tabs inline with relative content. When a tab is clicked all content is revealed instantly and inline. There is no pause to wait for a page to load, and no piece of content takes more than two clicks to reach.
This site was built with a strong focus on progressive enhancement. Many CSS3-specific flourishes were added to enhance the experience for those visitors using modern browsers. All other users will just see the next best thing. Instead of a rounded corner (-moz-border-radius) they’ll see a square one. Instead of a subtle gradient (-webkit-gradient()) they’ll see a solid background. If for some reason a user has Javascript disabled the tabs will take them to another page instead of loading it inline.
Since the site went live on September 21st average daily visits have increased by approximately 900%.
